International Journal of Digital Television Publishes Davor Marko's Article on the Role of Media Assistance in the Establishment of PSB in Serbia

The article investigates the extent to which Serbian media institutions, initiated and supported through media assistance programmes, have actually reached a level of sustainability and functionality. Analysing the establishment and transformation of public service broadcasters in Serbia, the author discusses the main achievements, failures and challenges of media assistance programmes that aim to contribute to Serbia’s democratization. Using the case of RTV of Serbia, the author examines what happens to imported models when they are transposed onto the newly evolving media systems of transitional societies.

This article is one of the outcomes of a regional research project on Development of Functional Media Institutions in Western Balkans - A Comparative Study, which analyzes the effects and efficacy of media assistance programs in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Serbia during 2012 and 2013. The project was jointly implemented by Center for Social Research Analitika, Center for Research and Policy Making (link is external) from Macedonia, Albanian Media Institute and Democracy for Development from Kosovo, funded by the Regional Research Promotion Programme (RRPP) in the Western Balkans.
